Basic First Aid – Why it is Important to Get CPR Certified

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Everyone Should Learn CPR

Picture this scenario: You have prepared dinner for you and your eight year old son. He's eating heartily as you suddenly swallow a chicken bone. It's become lodged in your throat. You can't breathe. You put your hand to your throat to indicate you're choking but your son only looks at you with fear and worry in his eyes. He has no idea what to do.

This is but one example of why everyone should learn CPR. There are many instances where a person who has taken CPR training has saved a person's life. Often times it's people we know. Our child may go underwater a bit too long, and we have to get the water out of his lungs, and get his heart beating again. Or maybe, we have an elderly grandparent who has collapsed while doing the dishes. What if you're a little kid? Do you call for help? By that time it might be too late.

Learning CPR is not difficult. In fact, it's easy and it can be fun. You can find CPR training classes in your area. They're required for many jobs, such as those in the medical field. Even lifeguards are required to learn CPR.

CPR training is often taught with a dummy that looks very lifelike. There are child dummies, and there are adult dummies, so that you can practice on both. If you're an adult with a small child, you should always know how to perform CPR in case something happens. Likewise, you should want your small child to know CPR, so that he can do something in case you become incapacitated. Working on these dummies will give you or anyone else the experience required to perform CPR on an actual human being.

It's All About Timing

When it comes to CPR, it's all about timing. You only have a short window when it comes to when you can perform CPR to actually help the person. That's because the brain can only go so long without oxygen. And if the person's not breathing, there isn't any oxygen getting to the brain. Therefore, everyone should take CPR training in case anyone around them becomes incapacitated.

That means you might even have to perform CPR on a stranger. But wouldn't you want a stranger to perform CPR on you if nobody else was around? Of course you would. If everyone knew CPR, there would be fewer deaths because more people would be saved. That's why everyone should take CPR training regularly so as to maintain their certification.

Look for a CPR training class in your area and take your younger children with you. You'll feel better during, and after taking the class, because you'll feel more prepared in case something ever happens, that requires you to use the training you've been given.

First Aid is the provision of initial or "first" care for an injury or illness. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a combination of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions, to deliver oxygen and artificial blood circulation to a person, in cardiac arrest. It can be life-saving first aid.

What’s Hot? – Wedding Cookie Favors

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Every woman wants her wedding day to be special, from the perfect floral bouquet to the wedding favors that everyone takes home with them. No other occasion is as color coordinated as the wedding. A new idea has taken hold on the wedding industry and is capturing the imagination of wedding planners across the nation, the wedding cookies. What you have here is an edible cookie that is custom made to your specifications. It replaces the somewhat messy idea of taking home a piece of the wedding cake home with you and presents instead a neater package as a remembrance of your special day. It’s a wedding favor that men, women and children of all ages can enjoy.

One of the fantastic things about these custom cookies is the versatility in design and customability. Whatever you want to be remembered most about your wedding can be reflected in the cookies. You can have a simple circle cookie with your monogram in the middle. Perhaps you want to have a replica of your wedding dress done in cookie form, this too can be done. Many choose to have a wedding cake design with their names and the date done in icing. Various fonts and colors are available to coordinate with your signature colors.

Additionally, when you order online from a site like MyWeddingCookies, the cookies are shipped directly from the bakery. While the cookie shelf life is approximately 6 months, you can specify what date you want your cookies delivered to assure freshness. The cookies come wrapped in cellophane with a ribbon tie off, making it easy to take home.

These adorable edibles also are a big hit at the rehersal dinner or wedding showers. Bridal shower cookies are also very popular right now. Assorted designs are available to choose from that reflects the theme of the wedding or shower. The cookies come in several different sizes and flavors some people even use them as place cards for the tables at the wedding. They can be printed with the guest’s name and their table number. What a memorable way to show your guest to their table.

While some decorators place these cookies at the place settings, others arrange a basket of them near the entrance and exit for people to take as they’re leaving. The choice is up to you and isn’t that the whole point?

Deciding on cell phone insurance

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

I went through the worst ordeal this past week with my cell phone isurance claim. I will leave my cell phone provider anonymous because I found that most, if not all cellular companies, use the same insurance company anyway. So there’s really no need to specify- your cell phone insurance company may very well be the same as mine. I will also leave anonymous the make of the phone I lost because that will give away the provider too, but I will tell you that it was one of the most expensive smart phones out there ( hence the need for insurance). Get a load of what happened folks….

http://mybabysfirstbirthday.com/

After being directed by my cellular service provider to file the claim on-line I attempted to answer some identity questions that were so far off I couldn’t believe it. I was being asked about people and place I’ve never known or been to. I was denied my first on-line claim attempt so I called to have a human walk me through the process. Because they claimed they couldn’t properly identify me I was denied again and told that a claims specialist would be contacting me through e-mail or a secondary number I provided, within twenty-four hours. Five days later and still no one has got in touch with me.

http://mybabysfirstbirthday.com/purchase-first-birthday-products-and-services/

This morning I gave the insurance company a fairly emotionally charged follow-up call. To my surprise the first thing the representative told me was that we would be able to have everything squared away by the end of the call. I wondered how, being that before-hand I needed to resolve everything with one of their “claims specialists”. Sure enough, within about seven minutes they figured out who I was and I could get a new phone for that discounted price. The representative assured me that her company was not in the business of taking peoples money or making customers work extra hard to get a service they already pay for. My final words to her? “Sure lady….”.

What is an Online Gift Register?

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

A gift registry is a type of managed wish list made for a celebratory occasion where gifts are customary, the most common of which are for weddings and baby showers. With the popularity of the internet however, gift registries have diversified into abundant categories, such as birthday or charity registries.

Where a commercially run gift registry differs from a typical recipient-run wish list is that the registry is managed by a third party; this can either be by a retail store, or increasingly gift registry websites are being used instead. Items are compiled and prioritized into a list, which is then sent to the chosen company. Upon purchasing an item on the registry, the registry is updated to be examined by other guests wishing to buy an item on the list. This offers many benefits for both the givers and the receivers of the gifts:

It provides insightful and easily accessible information for what items the giver should purchase. If managed by a retailer, it means that guests only have to go to one store in order to purchase a gift.

It prevents people purchasing duplicate or unneeded gifts, which is good for both the buyer and the recipient. It saves the family the time and hassle of updating the registry. Registries usually keep the purchaser of a gift anonymous, reducing the negative social interactions that can result from competitive gift purchasing.

When deciding whether to use the services of a specialized retailer or to use a registry website, several aspects of each should be considered. While using a retailer for your registry is generally free, the items on the list must be ones available from the store managing it. If you feel you do not want your guests to needlessly go through a variety of stores, this can be seen as an advantage. Retailers will also usually have professionalstaff that can assist you in a variety of matters related to the registry, such as gift ideas or return policy.

Online gift registries on the other hand, offer convenience, more variety and instant communication between persons. They can be used for a variety of events, can choose a larger variety of gifts from multiple stores (known as a Universal Registry), plus simple cash registries are available if that is what you desire.

Some websites even offer discounts on sponsored items if they are included in your inventory. However, most websites offer their services at cost to the host, plus great caution should be taken in making sure both the registry service and the listed gifts are legitimate. Thoroughly research the reputations of websites that you may be thinking about using, to avoid both confusion and heartbreak.

Things To Watch Out When Feeding Your Dog

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

If you think that only people are particular with their food, dogs are too! Animal nutritionists devote their time and effort in making the best dog food for our beloved pooch. We cannot just feed show dogs any food we deem edible by them. They require nutritional and quality food. And remember, some show dogs may not be allowed to eat certain food as this will affect their coat. Reading on what food is best for them is highly recommended but if you don’t like reading, you could always consult your vet.

Remember however those most commercial dog foods are made from materials unusable or less desirable for human consumption. These may include meat by-products or digests, meat-and-bone meals, grain by-products and restaurant grease.

Less expensive foods generally include less meat, and more meat by-products and grain “fillers”. The most expensive dog’s foods may be made of ingredients suitable for human consumption, organic products or free-range meats. Allergic skin disease, obesity, food intolerance, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic ear infections, cystitis (bladder inflammation), bladder and kidney stones, certain heart diseases, pancreatitis, feline hyperthyroidism, hip dysplasia, canine mammary cancer, bloat, and diabetes all have nutritional components – that is, nutritional factors are suspected or known to play a role in inducing or perpetuating these diseases. We must then pay close attention to what we are feeding our animals and how they are reacting to the food.

Take time to visit your local veterinarian when feeding show dogs. They always know and will recommend what food to give your dog and other useful tips for your dogs. Dogs must be in excellent health when they come to the show ring. Their coat and expression will tell a lot if they are not properly fed.

Nowadays, we have so many choices when it comes to food. Just make sure that the food we select for them will cater to their needs. Don’t hesitate to ask your friends and other dog owners about feeding dogs.

Suzy Richards writes manuals for dog trainers and is an internet marketing specialist. She reads a lot, mostly motivational and history books.
